Dannemora Hometown Heroes
The Village of Dannemora is proud to announce the launch of its Hometown Hero Project for 2024, a special initiative aimed at honoring the brave men and women who have served in the military. As part of this project, the village is accepting applications from veterans or their families who have a connection to Dannemora. By completing the application form, veterans and their families can participate in this meaningful tribute. Read on to learn more about the application process and how you can get involved.
Veteran Information
To begin the application process, veterans are required to provide their personal information. The following details are necessary:

Name: Please enter your full name.

Rank: Indicate your military rank.

Branch: Specify the branch of the military you served in.

Era of Service: Choose the era that corresponds to your service. The options include:

GWOT: 9/11/2001 to Present

Persian Gulf: 8/2/1990-8/31/1991

Cold War: 2/2/1945 – 12/26/1991

Vietnam Era: 2/28/1961-5/7/1975
-
Korean Conflict: 6/27/1950-1/31/1955
-
WWII: 12/7/1941-12/31/1946
-
WWI: 4/6/1917-11/11/1918
-
Additionally, veterans are encouraged to indicate if they have received any military honors, such as the Purple Heart, Medal of Honor, Service Cross, Silver Star, or Bronze Star. POW (Prisoner of War), MIA (Missing in Action), and KIA (Killed in Action) statuses can also be noted.
Sponsor's Information
To support the Hometown Hero Project, sponsors play a crucial role. Sponsors are individuals or organizations willing to contribute to the initiative. The following details are required for sponsor participation:

Name: Provide the sponsor's full name.

Relationship: Indicate the relationship between the sponsor and the veteran.

Address: Enter the sponsor's complete address.

Phone Number: Provide a contact number for the sponsor.

Email: Include the sponsor's email address.
Sponsors also have the option to purchase flags and extra flag yard signs to display in honor of the veteran. The flag cost is $200, and additional flag yard signs can be purchased for $20 each and will be displayed for two seasons. After the second season the flag will be returned to you. Also if you currently have a flag it may be reused if it's still in good shape for a $100 renewal. If interested, sponsors should specify the quantity of additional flag yard signs required.
Application Submission
Once the application form is completed, veterans and sponsors are requested to make the check payable to the Village of Dannemora Hometown Hero Project. The deadline is February 29, 2024. The completed application, along with the check and a picture of the veteran, should be sent to:
