Village Historian

Larry Seney

Phone: 518-293-7025

The Village of Dannemora has a rich history that is available to the public at our Village of Dannemora Museum, located in the Dannemora Community Center at 40 Emmons Street. The museum contains information and artifacts from the local history, history of Clinton Correctional Facility, and more. The Museum is operated by Larry with assistance from his "Administrative Office Assistant" (wife, Colleen) . They will guide you through the Village of Dannemora Museum, established by Village Historian Pete Light in 2011.

Pete Light worked at Clinton Correctional and helped create the prison museum and a traveling display.  This display is now on display at the Village Museum located in the Village of Dannemora Community Center. Terrance Gilroy, who was the Village Historian prior to Pete Light, had extensive research on the prison, Village and local history. He published a book on Dannemora, copies of which are available in the Museum or you can read it here.

The Museum holds open hours the first Saturday of the month, April through November, from 10:00am - 2:00pm. The remainder of the year, the museum will be open by appointment at a mutually convenient time by calling Larry or Colleen Seney at 518-293-7025. The museum is also frequently open during other special events happening at the Dannemora Community Center.
